There are many events taking place on the island all year round. Some of them are held during the summer and include the following:

Religious holidays and celebrations

  • May or June (depending on the date of Easter): Assumption Day celebrated at the beautiful church of Virgin Mary of Chryssopigi
  • June 13: Agios Eliseus is celebrated at the homonymous church (Aï Nilias)
  • July 17 (morning): Agia Marina is celebrated at the homonymous church in Flabouro
  • July 19: Prophet Elias is celebrated at the churches of Agios Ilias Apsilos, Agios Ilias in Troulaki and in Kodou
  • July 26: Agios Panteleimon is celebrated at the church of Agios Polykarpos in Cheronissos
  • August 14 or 16: Virgin Mary is gloriously celebrated at the churches of Platanissa, Toso Nero and at the church of the Virgin Mary of the Sun
  • August 28: Agios Ioannis is celebrated at the homonymous churches in Chori, Mavro Horio, Siderou and with a morning-time fair at the church of Agios Ioannis of Faros
  • August 31: Agios Simaion is celebrated at the homonymous church and at the church of Pantokratoras on the road to Platis Gialos
  • September 5: Taxiarch (Archangel) is celebrated at the homonymous church in Vathi
  • September 6: Agios Sozon is celebrated at the church of Agios Sostis at the mines
  • September 7: The Nativity of the Virgin Mary (Vrissiani) is celebrated at the monastery of Vrissi
  • September 13: The Holy Cross is celebrated at the church of the Cross (Stavros) in Faros, and in Honi on the road to Cheronissos
  • September 15: Agios Nikitas is celebrated at the homonymous church in Seladi

Other events

  • On the Pentecostal Sunday every year the Sifnos Municipal enterprise in cooperation with the Sifnos Cultural Association and the participation of approximately 100 volunteers revive the ancient network of communication between the island’s 73 recorded ancient towers (6th to 3rd century BC) and the acropolis of Sifnos using smoke and special reflectors
  • August Greek music concert
  • In the first weekend of September, the Festival of Traditional Cycladic Gastronomy “Nikolaos Tselementes”, with the participation of various associations, groups, chefs and musicians from all the Cycladic islands. More info: http://festivaltselementes.gr/en
